Usually they result in a discount (relative to exposure), logistical support and first-pick of any new lines. Just be certain of the reasons you've chosen to buy custom drums.Ever try selling a custom drilled bowling ball?Īs Bermuda and others have said before, endorsement deals very rarely result in free gear. forever. The initial cost will be VERY expensive, and I'm not saying it in some cases is well worth every(Guru) penny.(Shameless but well deserved plug)Įbay and CL are loaded with one of a kind custom drums, that sell(if at all) for a fraction of their initial cost. The last point is resale. If you want a truly one of a kind, made to your one and only specs, and no other like it in the world, then be absolutely sure you can live with them. If a true sonic difference is what you want, then solid shell or stave built custom drums made to specs that the big guys just can't do.is a different story. There are a few drum builders out there that do much more that hang hardware on Keller shells, with wacky finishes and custom(the afore mentioned 12x 7 3/4" toms shell ) sizes and call them unique. Is that visually (maybe) or sonicly.Well if I painted peace symbols on my 60's Ludwigs, they'd be unique. And if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a wagon too. I've seen guys swear that they can tell the difference between a 12x8 "and a 12x7 3/4" drum with the same shell material and heads.I'm calling BS on that. What do you think the sonic difference will be?Is it just a custom size,or finish? Exactly what is it that a custom drum can do for you that an off the shelf drum can't?
